Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a type of cosmetic surgery mostly done by physicians or spas called day or medical. The surface on the outer part of your skin is completely or almost completely taken off by a source of abrasion by light. The particles left behind afterwards are then removed by being vacuumed through a small wand like instrument.

This cosmetic surgery is usually done to repair the effects of damage from the sun to your skin or to make scars or discolorations appear less noticeable. This may not work as well on scars that are sunken into the skin. Microdermabrasion does not require you to have any anesthesia and there is minimal if any pain involved with this plastic surgery procedure.

Microdermabrasion plastic surgery is also done to treat people who suffer from severe acne; although for it to be truly effective it must be done repeatedly over a period of time. It can also be helpful in the treatment of problem stretch marks and wrinkles.

People who have sunburn, are advanced in their age, have severe scarring from acne, have skin sensitivity disorders or skin discoloration that is extensive may not be good candidates for microdermabrasion cosmetic surgery. A more qualified physician or surgeon should then be consulted for these more intense problems as there are many more kinds of plastic surgery available for treatment in these problems.

Before this cosmetic surgery, you will be given a list of instructions that you must follow to the letter a few days before the microdermabrasion is done. These will also include no exposure to the sun in the day’s leading up to the procedure and treatments you have been using such as topical creams, Retinol-A etc. should be completely stopped.

After the microdermabrasion plastic surgery procedure you may experience slight redness all over your face, this reaction should subside within 1 hour after the procedure. If the redness should last any longer than this then you need to contact your physician immediately. Peeling in some areas may happen but this is normal afterwards. You will be given a regimen for your skin care that will need to used on a day to day basis and keep all following up treatments to help you keep the benefits of this procedure working. You will also be told to use a sunscreen at all times of an SPF 15 or more.

Microdermabrasion benefits are the reduction and erasing of damage from the sun, size of pores are reduced, lines that are fine are erased along with wrinkles, skin is firmer, spots from aging are erased and there is almost no discomfort from this procedure. Your skin will feel smoother and silkier right after the treatment.

Microdermabrasion risks include getting infections if the equipment has not been sanitized properly, skin could become perforated if the equipment is used improperly. All of these risks can be diminished if you find a good quality dermatologist to perform this cosmetic surgery on you.
